Sensory-Inclusive Certification

Ask An Expert

The best to you on this (hopefully) glorious fall morning! Today we are learning about the steps you can take to become a sensory-inclusive certified destination.

We interviewed Uma Srivastava, CEO of KultureCity, from her home in Nashville, Tennessee. Uma talks to us about how 1 in 5 people have some sort of sensory processing disorder, meaning many of our future guests could be included in this group. This stat might make you think about children with autism, but that number includes adults with autism and other sensory processing challenges, like PTSD, dementia, and anxiety.

Uma explains how destinations can break down the process of sensory-inclusion into smaller, manageable steps, like offering sensory bags or creating social stories. And if you think this work has no effect on ticket sales, she has a story for that, too.
